My friend showed me this photo of a comparison between two Cosmopolitan articles. On the left was the article entitled, "Men who objectify women are the worst." The article on the right was entitled, "The 37 best ****** of the Olympics."

Obviously, the second article is objectifying men. So, I did a little research and came across an article written in 2015 called "Why It's Completely Ok To Objectify Men... No Really, It Is." The writer basically argues that male objectification is harmless, whilst female objectification and the "male gaze" lead to things like assaults, rapes and deaths.

Is this a justified standpoint? Is male objectification alright because it does not come with the same issues as female objectification? Or, do you think that this opinion is too far fetched? Do you maybe think that people assume men do not care about it, when it may in fact have quite an impact?

Should it be avoided, or is it completely fine?

I don't think men really care much about being objectified, whereas women could be more sensitive on the subject. Either way it's not that serious.

well there has been no long history of objectification of men like women, and the women part has a long history of making girls feel bad about their body shapes and what not.

most men don't care about objectification because they don't usually pay attention to areas of media where that would happen like magazines, and they don't care about seeing fit guys, myself included.

Objectification is not a serious issue and it's alright for both parties to be objectified.

I think male objectification doesn't come with as negative consequences as female objectification and this stems from the fact that females are still fighting to be treated equally by society.

I think it's definitely having adverse effects on this generation. A lot more men seem to have low self-esteem nowadays because they're expected to look and act a certain way.

What? In the western world, we live in a society of equal opportunity. Women are not below men in any way. If you think that, you're the problem. In fact women even have certain privileges that men aren't afforded.

People who believe it's OK to objectify men and not women are either ugly women who are jealous of beautiful women, or they are people who don't believe in equality and believe women are superior to men. Feminists are liars.

However, I don't care if men are objectified. Us men are emotionally strong enough to cope with that, and personally I like being objectified! I work hard in the gym and I like it when people appreciate it, it feels like I'm being worshipped.
