Yes, it created everything that is wrong with this world. Religion is the worst evil on this planet.

I have no clue where it absolutely began but from my experience of going to a Christian school through high school...My peers definitely used the Bible to back up their bigotry. It always grows from "not agreeing" with it to hating it and that's why it is so dangerous.

I think a few generations ago, when religion was more prominent and important, homosexuality was taught as a bad thing. I think now it's more about the passing down of these moronic values through the family tree. For example, an 80 y.o may actually use bible passages to back up their bigotry, whereas a 20 y.o will use what their dad told them to back up their bigotry, without necessarily quoting the bible, but even this is still rooted in religion.

I went to a Catholic high school and I remember this one day where we all got handed our weekly report of what is happening in the school (as we did every week) and this particular week, our principal included that our school was opposed to homosexuality and that God intended for it to be man and woman, and all, AND I MEAN ALL the students were so upset and angry, and some wrote letters to him and boycotted school. I guess my point is, whilst a lot of it is rooted in religion, as religion's power wanes, so does the hatred in the younger generations, and those to come.

Many cultures that existed pre modern Abrahamic religions (or their older forms) were very tolerant of homosexuality; it was simply a part of life and many times it was celebrated as another totally legitimate way of living, even occasionally being put on a pedestal compared to heterosexuality. Even modern religions have been affected by other neighboring religions in condemning homosexuality in the past and it has greatly contributed to modern homophobic culture (in other words, although holy books have been condemning it for a while, culture at large did not do it so vitriolically; the spread of culture from the west and east, etc. has helped to demonize homosexuality on a larger scale than religion alone has done in some cases)

Not totally related, but homophobia itself actually stems a lot from misogyny and sexism. The underlying idea is that men are valued and put on a pedestal in society, more so than women who were in many places (especially religious ones) seen as incapable of many things. Basically men who voluntarily lower themselves to the level of women are spitting in the face of society, which is damning. It's like a subtle "**** you" to women tbh.

Organized Religion demonize's it because Organized Religion needs something to hate...it can't exist without hate.

In my opinion it stems from freaky and insecurity. They hide behind the bible because to them it justifies it. But the bible is a piece of history and a tool for learning and a guide through life. Not an explicit instruction manual that you must obey to the T to get into heaven. I don't know why y'all care so much about what you think a 3,500 year old book says about homosexuality. Just live your lives and rise above bigoted assholes.
