what are your thoughts? Do you think people should all have a guaranteed wage no matter their station or their standing? Do you think such a guarantee would make people lazy? Do you think a guarantee like this is necessary to combat inevitable automation and the disappearance of low-skill jobs?

A very bad idea. Promoting laziness to the extreme. So unfair to those who actually work for a living.

Sounds similar to the Labour party ruining the UK.

you could argue that this would spur more purchases and improve the economy tho

well not really, because it's just going from one person's account that would spend that money, to another person's who would spend it, plus you shouldn't make people who also struggle to pay bills take out more taxes to pay for other people, no one would want to do that

That sounds really unfair, so just anyone could decide that they don't want to work and make no effort to find a job and be supported by hardworking taxpayers. Where is the incentive for anyone to work?

Nope. As mean as it sounds, competition drives economies. It drives innovation. There's no incentive to excel if people are given handouts.

There is a lot of reason why one would choose to work. The basic income is as it's called, Basic. If you want to enjoy the extras of life such as holidays, concerts, restaurants, shopping, new cars, big house, you would need to get a good job.

Also there is the fact people would be bored at home all day. They wouldn't have the spare money to realistically do a lot so working would become attractive to both get spending money and pass the time.

And of course there are people (like me) who actually have a passion for something and willingly want to pursue it. Having a basic income would mean more people could freely choose what they want to do because the money as a means of survival is already there and they wouldn't be blinded by the need to have a high salary job. A lot of people love their jobs/professions so these people would never want to just stay at home.

Humans are made to work. If you just sit all day, you'll have an early death.

Why would people want to work if they had a basic income? Wealth comes from work, not benefits and soon the fountain of plenty would dry out.

Great idea, I actually did a lot of research on this last year. It's definitely possible, but it has to be executed well.

The laziness argument is baseless and contrived. These programs have been piloted in several nations including Canada (although in Canada I think it was a city or province) and it worked very well, it just needs to be implemented properly.

It's going to happen eventually when robots steal all our jobs

The Switzerland basic income they proposed, seems a bit much tho. I don't know how expensive life is there, but I guess it's around the same as the rest of Western Europe and $2,500 is just too much, it's not basic anymore.

So benefits?
