Tymps.' Best of 2014 ∆ Discover New Music! ∆ FOURTH Update!!

Hello, and welcome to my Best Of! In case you don't know me, my name is Tymps a.k.a Adem! I love all types of music but my tastes tend to be particularly obscure, especially for ATRL. For me, music is all about embracing the strange and the unusual. It can lead to very different yet amazing results!

I want my Best Of to be as representative of what I listened to this year as possible, so I I have no limit on the number of times an artist can appear nor do I have any sort of tracking period of when the song had to be released – a song on this countdown is from 2000! Since this countdown is all about discovery, my only rule was that the song could not have charted in the top 20 of the Hot 100 (but that only affected one song, Hozier's Take Me To Church). You'll be sure to find tons of new songs from this countdown of all different styles including but not limited to bubblegum pop, electronic nu-jazz and indie alternative. I'll be doing one countdown: top 40 songs.

This is such a fun song. The arrangement ("instrumental" or "background music") is so strange yet wonderful. However, I still don't know whether or not it's in English. If anyone can tell what the hell he's saying, shoot me a message kthnxbai	As many ATRLers already know, Portishead is a great band famous for being one of the pioneers of trip-hop. This song is more slow and melodic than their usual work but it's my favorite song of theirs. The build-up of the song makes it a total adventure.

This is a really weird song. It feels very spiritual. I think the magic of this track comes form how Adult Jazz managed to grab onto the rawness of acoustic sounds and also get a good dose of electronic experimentation. Definitely not a song for everyone, but those that like it will love it.	http://www.newmove.bandcamp.com/track/take-what-you-can-get [this song isn't on youtube??] This song isn't really groundbreaking or anything but I love the sound of it. It's good to just have a nice, simple happy song every once in a while. New Move really has a great sound here, they're a band to watch for sure.

"Tilt" and "Idiot Mantra" are my favourites from this set, really diverse list so far.

Tilt and The Rip are both 7/10 for me. I enjoy them.

Tilt is actually the slightly better one, good vocals, good production (nothing over the top but not lazy either). I'm just not completely blown away with the lyrics. Lyrics are super important to me

The Rip is also 7/10. I love Portishead but this is one of the least listened to songs by me. For a good reason too, I just don't find it as interesting. Nevertheless it has the spunk of Portishead you'd expect

Adult Jazz is 9/10. I REALLY REALLY love the production, can't understand anything in the lyrics though

(the only reason why it's not a perfect).

I REALLY loved Tilt, the production was sooooo Sunday Fun. Like something you would play to clean the house with and dance around a bit. I wasn't really feeling The Rip so much, but I preferred Idiot Mantra and Take What You Can Get.
