This is a thread to speak about various social issues. I would like there to be a mature, thoughtful discussion about various different issues and topics that affect our society. The idea is to have one issue at a time and let everyone give their opinion on it, then we can change to a different issue when everyone is ready.

yass i love social issues. im taking a class on social issues this year. this is so important to be aware of yet people overlook most social issues.

I don't agree with abortion unless it was rape or the mother's life is in danger. If you don't want a baby, don't have sex.

It's gonna be a million liberals saying "YASSS" to each other while the like 5 conservatives on this site go mad and the libertarians (which is probably just me ) tend to agree with the "YASSS" people while understanding the conservatives.



As for abortion, should be legal during 1st trimester illegal afterward imo, but I understand others have different ideas on the value of life and when it begins.

Why do people hate abortion so much? It's WAY better than having a baby grow up with an unprepared teenage mother. Also, it's better than sticking the child in a foster home where it will probably be beat, raped, bullied, etc. If the mother wants to have the child and knows people who would gladly take care of it, then so be it. But there's no sense in having a baby if you can't afford one. Don't do that to yourself.

I am fully pro-choice. The only time I might get pissed at someone for aborting is if it was for vanity's sake -- I remember there was a blind item a few months back about a celebrity who was pregnant with twins, and she was supposedly considering an abortion because she was afraid of having worse stretch marks from twins Or maybe if it was super late into a pregnancy.


Otherwise though, abortions are fine with me. You should not bring a life into this world you are not emotionally and financially read to handle, or one that you simply don't want; that's not right for a child. And before anyone says adoption is always a solution... a) women still shouldn't have to carry a baby to term if they don't even want it (especially in cases of rape) aaaaand b) you clearly don't have any experience with adoption if you think it's all fun and rosy.

Finally, my huge pet peeve with "pro-lifers" is that they call themselves "pro-life" at all. That makes it sound like pro-choice is actually "pro-death." It's not like everyone who is pro-choice is all gung-ho about aborting left and right and "killing babies" (which abortion is not equivalent to, as much as people will try to claim). I'd bet that many pro-choice women still wouldn't get an abortion when it came down to it... they just want to know they have the choice to have an abortion should they absolutely need one.


And in the end, it should simply come down to women's votes, not men's.

The only people who should be making legal decisions on abortion are women because it is a woman's issue. It's completely ridiculous that a bunch of old men are the ones deciding what women can do with their bodies. And as a woman I 100% think abortion should be legal up until 6 months aka when the fetus is capable of surviving outside of the womb. If you don't want an abortion, don't get one. It's as simple as that.
