OBAMA: I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.
This could be political suicide though since e majority of the population does not support gay maariage, so I commend him for this. ESPECIALLY since the majority of independent voters, whom he'll have to fight Romney for, are anti-gay marriage.
But the fact that he has done so much for the gay community, scrapping DADt for one, things he actcually has control over is what I admire most. Because in the end, it all comes down to the states deciding over gay marriage.
This is great but should he try to make a bill or new law the Republicans will just shoot it down. Oh how I wish our young people never let Republicans get the majority. *sigh*

Gay Marriage is controlled by the states though. He has no power. Other than of course, his support.
Good for him. I thought he was gonna wait till after the upcoming election (if he won).

He JUST announced his support of it, did you expect him to immediately devote his presidency to legalizing same-sex marriage? Give him time, he's done a lot for gay rights.
He can't just wave his hand and legalized same sex marriage everywhere on Earth.
People need to understand this takes times. If he tried to take a radical stand on it he could end up losing a chance at another term. He has already shown that he's committed.
