I very rarely see people claim she is. I do recall a interview in which she says her parents are very religious so she wasn't allowed to listen to certain music and wasn't allowed to befriend certain people growing up.

She's only pro-gay if it fits into her paradigm, which is anti-metrosexual, emphasized by her completely b*** speech at her high school reunion concert declaring emo "dead". Any pop culture movement will die on its own without her "declaration" saying it now is.

Popularizing the "lipstick lesbian for straight male" concept, based on the straight male control of the sexual paradigm, is a HUGE problem for the advancement of sexuality in pop culture.

The "Firework" scene was a response to this criticism, AFTER the fact, which makes it worthless.

The controversy over the double standard was what made her successful. Both songs were catchy, but let's get real.

I Kissed A Girl was an exploitation of the "lesbians are hot" stereotype when Katy has never in fact kissed a girl. Wikipedia has the tea:
