Let's separate gangsta-rap and the bling-era from socially conscious hip-hop Geraldo.

Or better yet, as opposed to your broad brush and assumptions, examine the environment of institutional racism and the ghettoization of cities from the '50s through the '90s that created the need for this outlet of hip-hop, both good and bad.
