That was you. And you probably never even bothered with underground or socio-political hip hop but listened to all of that mainstream ********. It's just like all other genres of music; there's good legit pop music then there's trash.


And FYI, there is STILL some enlightening/real hip hop today (Talib Kwelli, Immortal Technique, Boog Brown, The Visionaries, Vinnie Paz, Atmosphere, The Alchemist, Joe Budden, Jean Grae, The Roots, etc.) but you won't hear it on the radio. you gotta look it up but of course no one wants to bother.

I'm pretty sure socio political hip hop is present obviously, but his remark is referencing mainstream. The majority of the urban demographic, black Latino whatever listen to the trash... Let's be real. No sugar coating this.

That's just like the majority of pop music listeners, they listen to the Miley's instead of the Sara Barreille's.
