Is R&B absolute trash, right now? Frankly, the only good R&B artists putting out current-sounding, forward-thinking R&B today is Beyoncé, Miguel, Brandy, and Drake. Meanwhile, the large majority of artists in the genre just release rehashed, dated, uninspired, reductive-sounding records -- Pharrell's "Happy," for example. What are your thoughts? Do you like R&B? Are there other notable R&B artists? Is the current state of R&B absolute trash? Can R&B even be saved at this point?

The problem is that all artist who dont even make R&B are called R&B artists just because they're black.

And again, Drake is not "forward-thinking." How can you diss Jhene and The Weeknd, then praise Drake, who makes the SAME type of music?

I came here ready to drag, but after the reading the OP, I'm inclined to agree. Not with the Pharrell part though. Throwback sound and dated aren't the same thing. Dated and uninspired RnB isn't really smashing, so it's okay.

Just because the good stuff in the genre doesn't come up under YOUR radar doesn't make he whole genre trash.
