Hunger Games started great, but somewhere after the Catching Fire hype and interest kind of started dying. The box office numbers also showed it, with Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2 opening with less than CF and Mockinjay Part 1 grossing less than Catching Fire WW. Part 2's opening wasn't a flop, but publications across the board are calling it a disappointment as it opened with less than Part 1. Also public interest seems to have faded away, I didn't notice that much hype for the second part and the promo was kind of kept on the downlow.

When you compare it to something like Harry Potter, it went on for 10 (!!!) years and on the way out it broke several box office records. Also, the hype was real. Even Twilight kept its momentum somehow.

Why did this happen though? Why couldn't Lionsgate keep the hype going throughout the end of the franchise? Was it because it was sandwiched between James Bond and Star Wars? Also, what does this mean for these type of franchises? Because if HG went out like this, Divergent is going to be particularly painful (the second one kind of was) and Maze Runner, who cares tbh

The answer is obvious: part 1 killed the hype.

For me personally, the movies got more and more boring as each one came out. My favorite was the first one and I only saw the latest one because someone else asked, I probably wouldn't have gone on my own

Not Lionsgate's fault that Mockingjay as a book is the weakest one

Also, Mockingjay lacked both action and actual Hunger Games.

Part 1 is the sole reason.

But you could argue the hype started dying before it got released. The period between HG and CF wasn't the same as the period between CF and Mockingjay, even if it was billed as the first part of the finale

Mess, this is exactly me. It's sad cuz the first was so good, the second also delivered. I think it also has to do with people just not talkign about it, people are talking about Star Wars everywhere, not Hunger Games.

Part 1 was horrible. Just Jennifer Lawrence screaming 'NO!!!!' throughout the entire film. And it was no longer about the actual games, just the aftermath. Plus the promo for Part 2 wasn't as strong as the previous films

I didn't even know Part 2 was coming out till a week before. They should've kept it one contained movie tbh, Part 1 was good but felt lacking at the same time.

first movie was awful compared to the book so i didnt bother with the rest

I don't want to hear the no promo excuse, the subway I took today was covered inside and out with HGP2 posters.

I would say that everything was fine even after Mockingjay Part 1 was released. The Hanging Tree was successful and ratings were okay, but then the GPs reviews killed it imo.

So sad, because I loved Part 1, not as much as THG and CF, but it was still amazing and heartbreaking.
