the janet. era seems bigger to me for some reason even though janet sold less than music box and had less number 1's

That Janet album wasn't very big. Music Box was like 3x bigger.

It's literally on the Billboard 200 All Time Charting
OT: Music Box by the numbers but Janet felt like more of an ERA you know?

Janet debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts, it was the first time in history a female artist debuted at number one of the SoundScan era; with the largest first week sales in history for a female artist at the time with 350,000 units sold in its first week.

7,040,000 units has been sold Meanwhile Music Box is at 7 Million in pure sales, but has a Diamond Shipment certification. Talk about over doing it SONY

Apparently the RIAA does count music club sales even if Soundscan doesn't. Music Box moved about 750,000 copies via BMG and supposedly around 1 million through Columbia House, which would put it at about 9 million-ish?
What's the tea on music clubs, does anyone know? Did people ask for certain albums or did they just get whatever the label felt like shipping? If the latter is the case, maybe that's why Soundscan doesn't use.

How much exact units did Music Box and janet. move without the club sales in the United States?
And how much WITH the club sales?

Music Box simply sold more. But the janet. album had an era. That album engrained Janet further into popular culture and established her icon status.

The BMG Music Service — the mail-order company famous for offering CDs at deals like "12 for the price of one" — has revealed in an e-mail to subscribers that they will cease operations on June 30, 2009. The writing seemed to be on the wall in December 2008, when Rolling Stone reported on the company's announcement that they'd no longer allow new subscribers to sign up; at the time the service said they were "very actively engaged with our existing member base and will be making more changes to serve them." Instead, three months later BMG Music Service is encouraging current subscribers to join up with sister site yourmusic.com, which offers albums at a discount price of $6.99 with no shipping fees.
