For the better part of a decade, young gay men of color who have "male/male sexual relationships" have ranked among the highest - if not the actual highest - of HIV+ people in the United States.

Why is this? More importantly, what can be done to change this?

well i'm gonna guess that those young gay black men are also underprivileged and poor so they lack the education on stds and resources for protection. maybe if some states weren't so focused on defunding planned parenthood these rates wouldn't be as high

we need to educate people, honestly, it's all down to that.

the problem is that, when someone puts of hiv related ads with colored people in them, they get really mad and think its racism. it prevents us all from getting educated. sensitivity hurts everyone...

Actually not it was not. I posted the thread I as trying to create. You just hijacked my thread and completely missed the point. The only time I see black people trotted out on anything related to gay people is he marriage struggle or the hiv issue. Otherwise nothing...

plus, the fact that it's 2015 and people are still having unprotected sex like it's nothing worries me.

specially with so many STDs going around.

it has nothing to do with their race as much as their genes! it's not strong enough to handle such disease.

EDIT: probably unprotected sex as Joaquin pointed out actually! But I do think that immune system/genes play a part on it as well.

1. If one is HIV+ and has anal sex, there is a higher chance of transmission due to the rectum being more sensitive

2. Blacks have been scientifically proven to be more susceptible to HIV

3. A lot of the time, gay, black youth do not have anyone to talk to when it comes to relationships and dealing with guys. Some of them learn the hard way...

I have no knowledge on this subject, so I'll just see what everyone says here.

Does it though? That puts a stigma on all black men. Gay men didn't like it when they were stigmatized but then they go and stigmatize others and everyone is just fine with that. It's stigmatizing if only black models are used in the advertisements. That's the point. Most of those living with hiv are in developed countries.

I've already met the head of the board of health in NYC, and the head of the cdc who spoke on these very issues several years back in Harlem.

Anyway I'm gonna have to put it down to education. Sex education in white schools is ****** enough, imagine how bad sex education would be in predominantly black school which already has subpar education. Just a theory
