It’s been one year since Carly Rae Jepsen changed
the world ATRL forever. Though it landed with a commercial thud last August, her third studio album,
Emotion, was an instant critical smash, ultimately finishing third on the 2015
Pazz & Jop poll and becoming something of a new musical bible for fomo pop lovers everywhere. On this site, it was an unrivaled sensation, winning four
ATRL Grammys, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year, and taking the top spot on the annual
ATRL Top 50 list with its second single, “Run Away With Me.” (Sadly, a few
anti-Jepsenites have yet to let the gospel into their hearts.)
But one controversy remains: What is the best song on
Emotion? With 17 on the deluxe edition, and not a clunker among them, it’s a tougher call than the 2016 GOP primary field. (Among a group of ATRL friends that I regularly text with, the topic seems to come up about once a month.) So let’s settle it once and for all, with a definitive ranking of the track list that will determine whether “Boy Problems” slays “Warm Blood” and if you really, really, really, really, really, really like “I Didn’t Just Come Here to Dance.”
To participate, please complete this
quick song sorter and PM me your results by this Sunday, Aug. 14. Those lists will be compiled to determine a universal ranking, which will be unveiled in time for the first anniversary of the album’s worldwide release on Aug. 21. Feel free to use this thread to advocate for your track of choice or to share your memories of this first year A.E. (After
Emotion). Seventeen lucky guest writers will also be chosen to explain why their favorite song is the true highlight of the album, so let me know if you are interested.
