My question is, if Gaga were around during Madonna's time (if they both emerged on the pop scene at the same time)...

Who would have been more successful, respected, etc. in the end?

Looking for unbiased and thoughtful opinions...

Compare their talent, intelect, business strategies, passion, artistic vision, work ethics, relevancy to society, etc.

Oh boy...

Gaga is far more talented. It's hard to say because they are completely different in their messages and their image and career goals, but Gaga has more musical talent, more vocal talent, more songwriting talent, and, in my opinion, more creativity and drive (which are more subjective). It's hard to say Gaga would be more successful in Madonna's time because obviously Madonna has already proven her success in her time, but I would put my money on Gaga if this were possible to test out.

If there was no Madonna the majority of today's pop girls wouldn't exist.

And I don't like the poll question. How can we imagine what gaga would be like in the 80s?
What are the criterias? Do we assume she'd debut with Just Dance? Will she be dressed the same....

But since you ask.

Madonna has more musical talent. Much better songwriting skills. Much better producing skills.
Much stronger charisma. Creativity. The ability to change. All of that without the need to look like a sad clown.

I see almost everything she does now as a direct or indirect copying of what Madonna been doing throughout her career. From music, to target audience, to controversy subjects.

I don't see her being successful if she emerged before Madonna, cos she'll have nothing to copy.

If she emerged right after Madonna, she'd just end up in her shade....

She gets away with copying her these days, cos the today's generation doesn't know much about the Legends.

Madonna plays guitar. She writes and produces every single of her song since mid 80's.
She has a far stronger voice than gaga with a far greater vocal range. 2.5 octaves for gaga vs 4.0+ octaves for Madonna. Any more questions about me or Madonna's talent?
