Once again these kinds of polls turns into a popularity contest. Madonna would've moped the floor with Gaga like she did with everyone else at the time. I honestly haven't seen so much delusion spilled... that member longjohn needs a brain surgery. so ignorant

Most of my posts in this thread have dealt with NEX and his delusion because he kept trashing Gaga's voice.

My first post stated that I would put my money on Gaga because of her musical talent, but it's obviously hard to say because firstly, we can't test it out, and secondly, because Madonna's already proven her success in her time. I really hope you aren't another troll that uses delusion as much as Nex does.

Let's not argue talent too much because there were far more talented artists than Madonna, but she left most of them in the dust - one being Cyndi Lauper. I think Cyndi Lauper made more of a cultural impact early in her career than Madonna did, and many people (e.g. Paul Grein) predicted that Cyndi would outlast Madonna in the long-run. While she has still been visible, she hasn't had a multi-platinum album since the '80s! Madonna is now "The Queen of Pop." This is kinda stupid because GaGa and Madonna are from different time periods and are/were making different types of music. You can't just combine the music scene, IMO. If you want to compare their impact early in their career, do that. GaGa had instant cultural impact.

I don't know why people keep bringing up talent as if Madonna's competition at the time wasn't talented. Madonna constantly pushed the boundaries and reinvented herself time and time again in a way that made the public believe that she was serving them something new and different each time. All the while, she managed never to go off the deep end and become so over the top or ridiculous that the public lost the interest. She was captivating! Gaga's inspiration for being an over the top gimmick with crazy antics stems from Madonna herself. It was Madonna who made it ok for todays pop stars to push the envelope without the fear of loosing the publics interest. Had it not been for the Erotic era or rolling around in a wedding dress, would today's pop stars feel the need to be 'controversial'?? I seriously doubt it. Madonna's brilliance and success is all the more amazing because she was NEVER the most talented artist around. Her impact on pop culture is what sets her apart and THAT will never be matched by any of today's pop stars.

Gaga is more talented, but much of what she does fails to connect. It's like she goes to these extremist ways to prove a point in her music or music videos. Madonna did it effortlessly. It wasn't over-the-top. It was genuine.

that's justin timberlake, not beiber. and that's not a random list of artists. it's a list of most favourite artists. the actual list is way deeper and much more rounded. reaching beyond what most of u ever heard of.

Madonna isn't the only one who opened doors for artists like lady gaga though. David Bowie, Grace Jones, Michael Jackson, and even marilyn manson have all played a role in preparing the public for something like lady gaga.

Couldn't you say the same thing (minus Manson) about Madonna? What she did in the first 10 years of her career was unheard of for a major pop star. We don't know whether Gaga would have been as brave as she is now without Madonna doing it first, so it makes it extra fun to argue about this poll. It's a revolving door of nonsense.

The fact does remain, though, that Madonna outlasted all of her "more talented" peers and even most of her successors.

and you included gaga's vocal weaknesses and discounted madonna's vocal weaknesses.

This question is stupid and ridiculous, Lady Gaga was a baby in the 80's , you can't compare two different moments and music scenes

I prefer Madonna by far and I consider one of the greatest pop star ever, while Gaga has some good songs and media exposure
