Let's discuss.

Sure, Britney Spears is one of the most wildly success female artists ever, dominating every venture she embarks on from music to perfume and soda. She's even kept the public's interest and is one of the most Google'd people ever. I could ramble on about her various successes until my bones become brittle because she's so enormously successful...

...but she's always snubbed by most awards shows. The Grammys for instance. Even though it's basically a popularity contest within the music industry and has been called fraudulent by many artists and producers, Britney never seems to be able to nudge her way into even a nomination. The VMAs ignored her until after her breakdown, even though all of her performances are iconic for one reason or another.

Why (in the past, mostly) hasn't her immense, impressive and unmatched success not translated into those fickle and often faked awards?

Is she not taken seriously?

Because she's not known nor popular for her talent, so even if many awards are based on popularity, for her to win a whole bunch of awards or even garner lots of nominations it would really make the awards seem like they are appreciating the talents of someone that most people realize has little.

Wasn't she boycotted by radio too during most of her career?

I guess they just didn't like her. Britney constantly getting snubbed and yet she remains an icon. Only the true princess of pop

...but is talent necessary? Taylor Swift wins writing awards all the time, and the stuff she write's is incredibly elementary. If you ask me, it's more about appeal, which Britney has continuously proved that she has.

Like ones that measure actual success instead of ones where a panel of self-proclaimed experts pick and choose awards? I agree with this sentiment.

Because awards are most often based on the credibility of the artist.

I agree completely, but it's clear that Taylor's talents are above Britney's even if they are elementary. Or maybe not. At the very least she is perceived as being talented (writing her own songs, playing guitar, singing live, etc.)

Plenty of music legends have never come close to winning a Grammy.

She has always beat the odds.

Even when she created a terrible album, which is still better than most trash out today, she made millions by doing vegas and got relatively positive reviews.

She's not acclaimed, and she's seen as a talentless puppet. She even stated she wanted Xtina's voice. Why would someone even respect someone jealous of another person's talent?

Also, the Grammys, though recently honouring more popular acts, is not simply a popularity contest. I think the recent win for Arcade Fire helps proves this, as well as Bieber's lost to Spalding.

Taylor writes her own songs and she has a knack for it - her label knows it and people love her writing and people can relate to her through her writing.

Britney is NOT known in the same way that Taylor is as a songwriter.

As a fan, I've never regarded Britney as a talented vocalist. That's not what she's about... but since when are The Grammy's based around talent? They are literally voted on by people in the industry

No shade, but it makes sense that Beyonce has so many Grammy's because she has so many people on her side. When you have sixteen big name producers on a record that went #1, as opposed to a #1 by a one producer who is budding into the industry, you have exponentially more people submitting your name for that award. Plus, you have Matthew Knowles who has an entire label as his command to vote as he please... and I've experienced that first hand. When I interned for TKO, who does marketing for Music World Gospel, Matthew flat out requested access to her online voting registration information so that his interns could go in and votes as they pleased.

...and it's really not shade. I've been an open Bey fan for years and though I don't necessarily praised everything she does, I think she's more than deserving of each Grammy she possesses. I just think people hold that Grammys to a higher standard than other awards, but it's really no more practical than a high school election.

She offers nothing substanstial to her craft, other than being a vocal mouthpiece (which lbr isn't any good either). Britney isn't "snubbed" since that would denote a belief she deserved the award in the first place. #staywoke
