Share Your Racist Experiences
As we all know, racism is a sensitive topic in many places, including ATRL. It can bring out deep emotions, such as hurt, anger, and confusion. But as humans, we feel better when we share, talk, communicate, and vent out. This thread is to share our experiences with racism, and to put aside are differences to understand each other and to help each other heal.
I'll start:
- On a trip to Miami, I was with some friends, and naturally, we were speaking German amongst ourselves. A few American teens nearby (they were also white, FYI) heard us speaking in our language. They, apparently, though we couldn't speak English, so they laughed and said that they wished us Germans would stop coming like droves to visit Florida, and that we should attack somewhere else. Of course, I understood them, and "CLOCKED" them. They were embarrassed, and I got satisfaction when I made them spend just a few of their coins on me, but proceeded to throw the McDonalds coffee they bought me in the trash.
-Another time was when I was with my family, and we were walking, and again, talking in German. This random person started shouting, "The Germans are coming! They Germans are coming!" To this day, I don't know if he was joking or actually racist.
Now share your stories.

When my family was trying to adopt a cat, the adoption lady had the nerve to ask us if we were going to eat it (I'm Chinese).

Well, I'm sure most Asian people have heard the dropping-spoon-on-the-stairs-to-name-the-children joke. I've never been harshly discriminated for my race, though, since I basically look white.

Um....
Are you white? Because if you are this is not a case of racism. Maybe prejudice against Germans from that person specifically (since its not a widespread thing in society), but not racism.

Idk if this counts... the McDonald's by my house has only Asian workers, and they would never hire me and I applied so many times. (I now work at a different McDonald's)... The McDonald's application says they do not hire based of race, sexual orientation, etc. But that McDonald's still has almost all Asian workers

Maybe not racism, but basically the same thing: people prejudiced against others because they come from somewhere different, and either dislike or think they are superior, or both.

Are you white? I'm guessing you are white. Racism against whites does not exist, as hard as this is to imagine. Racism is not just "discrimination based on race" (and please don't bring up the dictionary definition which was created by old racist white men), it's systematic discrimination on every level of society (media, politics, financially, in the education system, in coded language, in societal expectations, etc) which white people do NOT face.

No, it's not the same. At all. Racism is FAR worse, far more perverse and ingrained into society, it's SYSTEMATIC and something ALL white people benefit from. Prejudice like you're describing is a case by case basis and not at all comparable to racism.

Actually, no, it's not. It's a LOT more than that. Or are you going to tell me that a black person experiencing discrimination compounded by hundreds of years of slavery resulting is disadvantageous socioeconomic conditions for their family and extreme and generalized prejudice from society is the same as the Chinese kid calling you "whitey" and not wanting you to come over to his house?

A woman asked me if I were part "******" and I said 100% what are you gonna do and she said she thought I was latino, as if latino's cannot be black, She was latino and I just cussed her out in the little spanish I knew.
Of course it was in FLORIDA, naturally where all the hate and bigotry exists.

I don't want this thread to turn into another mess, because the purpose was for us ATRLers to come and support each other:
BUT, I do have to disagree and say there is racism against whites. OBVIOUSLY way less common than racism against black people. However, many white people at first denied there was racism towards blacks centuries ago, even decades ago. Right now, some people are denying that some whites face racism / prejudice. For example, I have heard that some more traditional Asian families do not want their children to intermarry with other races (including whites). This is the same as whites not wanting to intermarry with other races (blacks, Asians, etc.).
