On Friday's "Today," we met 15-year-old Renata, who has been bullied most of her young life. She hasn't been to public school in two years and doesn't like to leave the house. Renata admitted that she was afraid she would "never have any friends," and the kids at school used to call her the "girl with the big nose." Renata's mother couldn't afford plastic surgery, but she was willing to let her daughter have the procedure. That's when they found out about the Little Baby Face Foundation, an organization that helps low-income children born with facial birth defects. Renata had surgery to fix her deviated septum as well as some cosmetic procedures. She now has the confidence to return to public school for the first time in three years.
I think she made the best choice. Acceptance might be the key, but nose jobs help more
I'm having one too this year actually, I have a ****ed up septum
She let the bullies win in the end. She shouldn't have to change herself just because some ignorant people have a problem with it. Embrace yourself honey.
I'm always split on issues like this. On one hand, if she feels more confident and happy with the way she looks that's a good thing. But on the other hand, it's like she's letting the bullies know they were right, that there WAS something wrong with her like they said and it's like she's changing for their benefit. IDK
