A top Vatican representative and Roman Catholic Archbishop is reaching out to form a coalition with other religions and has called on them to join the Vatican in a worldwide holy war against same-sex marriage, claiming that proliferation of equality “is not a good thing for society,” and will lead to “confusion.” “I wonder if we shouldn’t ask for and look for more support among other Christian confessions and indeed, persons of other faiths,” Archbishop Antonio Mennini, who represents Pope Benedict XVI and the Vatican in Great Britain, said in an address to Catholic bishops from England and Wales. “It seems to me that, concerning the institution of marriage, and indeed the sanctity of human life, we have much in common with the position of the Jewish community, the Chief Rabbi and many of the more significant representatives of Islam,” Mennini added. Mennini, 64, was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI to Great Britain 2010, and also served the Pope in Russia, Uzbekistan, and Bulgaria. Pink News reports that in the UK, “Archbishop Peter Smith said that while there has been no ‘formal’ contact with Jewish groups to form what he called a united front on the subject of marriage, ‘we will work with anyone who agrees with us that to redefine marriage is not a good thing for society and will lead to confusion’.” Archbishop Smith is the second most senior Catholic cleric in England and Wales. He called the current plans for equal marriage “dangerous,” adding, “the Church of England is very much along the same lines as ourselves on this.” He also used the opportunity to defend the teaching of homophobic definitions of marriage at Catholic schools, which, as PinkNews.co.uk reports … is now the subject of government investigation. The Catholic Church has been so far the most vocal of opponents to the government proposals, with the country’s most senior Catholic calling it “a grotesque subversion of a universally accepted human right.” Liberal factions of the Jewish and Christian faiths, however, have come out strongly in favour of the proposals. “In Scotland, the Council of Glasgow Imams recently agreed a joint resolution describing same-sex marriage as an “attack” on their faith and fundamental beliefs,” the Telegraph reports: Opinion in the Jewish community has been more sharply divided. The Liberal and Reform synagogues have given their support to same-sex marriage but rabbis within the main United Synagogues have expressed opposition. The Chief Rabbi, Lord Sacks, who is retiring, has so far resisted pressure to voice opposition to the proposal. But Rabbi Yitzchak Schochet of Mill Hill United Synagogue in north London, who advises him on family issues, recently accused the Coalition of launching an “assault” on religious values. Meanwhile Lord Singh, head of the Network of Sikh Organisations, recently said the proposed reforms represented “a sideways assault on religion”. Addressing English and Welsh bishops at their plenary meeting in Leeds, Archbishop Mennini, warned them they faced a “lengthy and probably difficult campaign.”

All they are doing is embarrassing themselves. The more they persecute people, the more people will walk away from faith all together. This is so counter-productive. And if you don't support gay marriage, fine. Don't marry someone of your sex. But don't try to tell others how to live their lives.
