Washington Times: Lady Gaga is Finally Relevant
Warning: Before you read, I have to say I don't agree with the article, specifically the part where it says that Islamists hate us and want to kill us, I think this article ironically is trying to spread more hate and division. So read critically and make up your own mind.
Lady Gaga is finally relevant
Source:
Washington Times
Lady Gaga is now relevant. She has preached for tolerance and against bullying. Now she is being bullied, and people should defender her.
Quote:
Lady Gaga is now officially relevant. This is not about pop culture, which will never and should never be relevant. This is about Lady Gaga who is now relevant to society at large.
Before this past week, she was some 26-year-old woman named Stefani Germanotta. She sings and dances, and promotes herself by wearing outrageous costumes. In a nutshell, she is "edgy" and "original" to those too young to remember Madonna.
Ms. Germanotta's music was fairly harmless and inoffensive. While Madonna tackled abortion and racial prejudices, Ms. Germanotta tells people to "just dance."
Like many young people today, Ms. Germanotta through her Lady Gaga persona came to the conclusion that her musical talents (which admittedly are abundant) required her to express political opinions. My first experience with this unknown (to me) woman came while watching Bill O'Reilly. He showed a clip of a young woman pulling at her own hair and screaming like a lunatic. "Are you listening, President Obama? Are you listening?"
The issue was gay marriage, and she was in favor of it. Ms. Gaga claims to be bisexual, which may be interesting to somebody, somewhere. Later on, she demanded a meeting with President Obama to discuss childhood bullying in schools.
Her activism does not make her unique. Many Hollywood celebrities assume their opinions matter. Yet what makes Ms. Gaga and her supporters frustrating (a polite way of saying hypocrites) is that when they truly should stand up, the only sound is silence. Ms. Gaga became a real victim this week, and everybody should rush to her defense.
She had a concert scheduled in Indonesia. 50,000 tickets were sold for this Jakarta extravaganza. Then she was forced to cancel the show under heavy pressure. Despite Indonesia being seen as a model of secular democracy mixed with moderate Islam, this nation of 140 million people still has Radical Islamists flexing muscle.
The Islamists decided that Ms. Gaga's concert would be too extreme for the youth.
Yes, the people who flew the planes into the Towers on 9/11 are still hoping to extend their worldwide Caliphate. This time all it took was the threat of violence to cause Ms. Gaga and her sponsors to retreat. She should not be blamed. She is a young girl who has every right to consider her personal safety.
Her promoters and supporters have no excuse. Once again, the West surrendered to pressure from Islamic fundamentalists.
Ms. Gaga and her supporters should think about this on a deeper level, despite Hollywood celebrities having an aversion to depth.
Those who care about gay marriage may be surprised to know that gay people do not fare well in most Muslim countries. Forget the right to marry. They just get murdered for "crimes against Islam." Crimes include being gay while breathing.
Ironically, many leftists hate Israel, even though Israel allows gay marriage.
Those who care about bullying should understand that Radical Islam is all about bullying. There is no need to ever "tolerate" or "try to understand" any of the "root causes" of Radical Islam. They hate us and want to kill us. They want to drive us from every part of the world. What the Islamists did in Indonesia is the very essence of what bullying is about.
If Ms. Gaga were attacked for being a lesbian, President Obama would be holding a press conference. He would blather on about "diversity," "respect," and "teachable moments."
Yet Ms. Gaga was attacked for being American by those who hate America. Doesn't that deserve any outrage?
America just observed Memorial Day, where fallen soldiers are honored as heroes. Why is it that so many people who claim to support American troops will not stand up and demand that anti-Americanism by Islamofascist lunatics stop this instant? Our soldiers do not as much of our civilians, but can we at least stand up on our own soil from the safety of our own homes and publicly and loudly support freedom?
Why is hating America and Americans not considered "discrimination?" Why is anti-American bigotry acceptable?
A real American leader would explain to Indonesia that every penny in foreign aid they receive from the United States will be cut off if Radical Islamists try to intimidate any American citizens for any reason. Anything less is appeasement.
Where is the National Organization for Women? Don't they care that paternalistic males intimidated a woman? Why do Radical Islamists always get a free pass from the NOW?
It takes zero bravery to stand up in America and fight for gay marriage. Religious Christians opposed to gay marriage do not shoot their political opponents in the streets. Standing up against childhood bullying is a risk-free proposition. Is there a pro-bullying lobby that none of us know about?
Ms. Gaga has every right to be politically active, and it is commendable of her as a citizen to want to prevent people from being harassed not for doing anything, but just for being. Such actions make her, despite her outrageous behavior at her concerts, a potential role model.
Yet at some point the celebrities and their leftist lemmings in America need to understand that our sexual orientation does not matter if we are all blown to Kingdom Come. I don't envision myself paying money to see Miss Gaga talk about blah-blah while shaking her ta-tas.
Nevertheless, she should have the right to do this without threats of violence by those wanting to kill all infidels (non-Muslims).
If Lady Gaga ends up being a crusader in the fight against Radical Islam, she could end up being the most relevant celebrity since Dennis Miller figured things out after 9/11.
Perhaps Ms. Germanotta could even include some comments against Radical Islamists the next time she talks about bullying. Now that would be a concert really worth seeing.

It is my personal opinion that the author is using the Lady Gaga situation to attrack young readers and make them against Islam.
So always think who is behind an article and what personal agenda they may have when you read a piece.
We may not agree with Radical Islam, but hatred is never the answer

Sounds like an ATRL member. Saying that the whole religion is based on 'bullying' is so disrespetful.

It all makes sense, though. I'm not against Muslims at all but I am against any religious extremists.
The fact is that Lady Gaga and her fans received threats of violence and were at risk to potentially be killed. All of this was done by the radical Muslim extremists in Indonesia.
Of course, it is a stretch to connect all of this to 9/11 but they both made threats of violence. I don't think the author is crazy. It seems quite likely that the author is intolerant of all Muslims which is obviously wrong. But on face-value, the article doesn't promote the intolerance of those who practice Islam, just the intolerance of radical extremists, which I agree with because nobody should have the right to threaten the lives of others.

Lol cherrypicking much. "Get into the groove, boy, you've got to prove your love to me." vs. "We fell in love, but not in court... I will fight for, I have fought for, how I love you..."

Let's not get carried away here, girls. Radical Islamists are bad. In Nigeria, the Taliban spin-off Boko Haram literally translates to "Against Western Teachings." They've made it abundantly clear that the West should be destroyed.

Radical Islam is like this, though. Just like there are Christians who try to tolerate everyone and do good in their lives and then there are Christians who follow the bible word for word and want to ban gay marriage and are intolerant of homosexuality (and other things non-Christian), there are Muslims and Islam extremists.

I just don't think it's a issue of her being American. I mean Katy toured in Indonesia and she is as American as apple pie.

An article praising Gaga and saying she is politically relevant?
I know I'm so bad.
I'm even worse than those monsters who don't care to read it through so they attack me and report this thread without even knowing what it is about.

Oh hunny... you don't post anything from the Washington Times. They're known in the media as being more Conservative-messy than Fox News...like WAY more. Their authors are the kind of people that would deny that the Holocaust happened.

Also... This is what copy editors are for.
If this was the Post, I would read it.
