OMG I'm done
This is "Gaga's musical influence" thread all over again. Pages & pages of ******** and not even a valid point (Well, ALEX stated a valid point, but it's not the same the OP tried to say)

Of course all these pop girls have to at least pay some attention to one another. As far as Gaga, as some artists have said, Gaga elevated the game as far as theatricality, etc. I'm not saying this hasn't been done before, so don't even try me on that. But to be the "it" girl in a relatively boring time in pop music and bring in elements of performing and costumes, etc, that we haven't seen a lot made other girls seem boring or less exciting, even if they really weren't.
I don't think anyone really is copying Gaga per se, but I think she made some of the other artists (not all) take a look at what they were doing and maybe change their game a bit. I think all pop artists are inspired by other artists, be it their contemporaries or past artists. I think it's natural for people to be compared to her, but it's not necessarily an insult. Other artists are compared to artists that aren't Gaga, too. In a few years--10 years---whatever, we'll be saying this about someone else.
Sorry for writing a book, so in fewer words: I think Gaga made some other girls take notice and change what they were doing a little bit, but it's not copying imo. Just like she was influenced by others but did her own thing with it, other artists are doing the same thing.

That's exactly my point! It's just as absurd to deny Gaga's influence on Katy/Rihanna as it is to deny that Gaga takes inspiration from Madonna.

Nobody is talking about Gaga's musical influence in this thread.
People are saying that Gaga influenced theatricality in pop.
If you're going to cherrypick instances where Gaga wore something the same color as Madonna, then we're going to compare Katy wearing something the same general cut as Gaga on the same talk show.

I think Gaga has influenced Katy. I think they've all influenced each other. But all of the comparisons in the thread, whether its the pictures, or quotes, or whatever a so reaching, it just makes everyone look delusional.

My point has always, always, always been that it's absurd to cherrypick pictures as "proof" of "copying," because the same can always be done to your fave.

No you're missing the point. I'm saying Katy had a valid reason for being in this dark era, she has said many times she's in a goth era. Gaga just pops out of no where with this stuff because every day she's in a new era, she doesn't explain to people why she does weird outfits she just does. Also, its a lot more than just clothing (not shading), but I'll save that for another time

I'm not saying Katy is copying, exactly, but you can see influence EVERYWHERE if you're determined to look for it.
|
Can we really call that an influence? I mean, the dresses look similar but probably because they're from the same designer. And they're not as weird as other outfits they've worn before. Actually it looks pretty "normal" for Gaga's standards and Katy is in her goth phase right now.

Not always true at all. Also, the word "weird" is subjective. Let's sharpen the terminology if you're trying to state facts.

That's exactly my point. You can't say that Gaga "ripped off" Madonna because both had black and white segments in their tour specials, and then refuse to recognize that these dresses are, on the surface, similar.
Either everybody is "ripping off" everybody else, or you acknowledge that pop stars influence each other and just move on with your lives.

I'm just comparing this thread to the other one .
And the situation isn't comparable, we know that the Gaga-Madonna comparisons are way more than "she wore the same dress on Ellen" or "she was an allien on a song about alliens that was shooted the same week as Gaga's allien video". Of course I don't agree with people taking everything too far, but the Gaga-Madonna is just something you can't deny.

That's just blatantly false. She has reasons, which she has explained, for just about everything she wears. Stans can tell you what it means; you all just laugh us off as "delusional."
She is highly aware, as she has said in numerous interviews, of what every outfit references and represents.
I've yet to read Katy's explanation of the cube on her head.
