USA Today's Weekly Airplay Rundown
From USAToday:
'Irreplaceable' is irrepressible
Anyway, to no one's surprise, Justin Timberlake's My Love racks up week No. 3 at the top of the national radio airplay chart, according to figures compiled by Nielsen BDS with Arbitron. Justin garnered a 5.3% audience increase, so he should be able to hold off two onrushing contenders, Akon's I Wanna Love You (which moved from No. 3 to 2 with a 12.7% audience gain) and Beyonce's torrid Irreplaceable (6-3 with a staggering 35.6% gain. It's easily the best song on her B'Day album, but for some reason I have a mental block about the title, and if it comes up in conversation, I'm always calling it Irresponsible or Indivisible or something equally Incomprehensible. However you say it, it's a home run, though.)
Akon's Smack That is No. 4, followed in the top 10 by hits by Ludacris, Bow Wow with Chris Brown, Chris Brown by himself, Hinder, The Fray and Nickelback. Much more detail follows.
> The annotated top 10:
1-1 last week Justin Timberlake/My Love (+5.3% audience gain): Easily one more week at the top, maybe two, but then it will have to give way to the juggernaut that is Beyonce.
2-3 Akon/I Wanna Love You (+12.7%): Huge hit, still doing great, but I'd be surprised if it stays ahead of Beyonce next week.
3-6 Beyonce/Irreplaceable (+35.6%): Could be the fastest-rising song in the history of this chart (which is only a few years old, but still ...), No. 3 in just five weeks and no end in sight.
4-4 Akon/Smack That (+5.7%): With three hot records ahead of it, No. 4 would appear to be its pinnacle.
5-2 Ludacris/Money Maker (-12.4%): Making room in the top 5 next week for Bow Wow.
6-8 Bow Wow/Shortie Like Mine (+16.7%): This tale of romantic devotion should have no problem going top 5 next week. It's getting higher than that that will be the challenge.
7-5 Chris Brown/Say Goodbye (-8.1%): Title says it all.
8-7 Hinder/Lips of an Angel (-1.3%): A long but slow decline awaits. A country cover will soon arrive.
9-9 Fray/How to Save a Life (+3.5%): Should jump ahed of Chris and Hinder next week.
10-10 Nickelback/Far Away (-2.3%): Hanging in there but this should be its last week in the top 10.
> Top 10 contenders:
Not too many immediate threats to hit the top 10 in the next couple of weeks. Fergie's Fergalicious is fergaccelerating, up from 15 to 11 with a 13.2% audience gain; it's stronger on radio than predecessor London Bridge. Unk's Walk It Out (12-12, +3.4%) still has a chance, and Jim Jones' We Fly High (22-15, +23.1%) could make it the week after next.
> Hottest songs on the top 100:
There are actually two songs with higher audience-gain percentages than Beyonce's 35.6%, but they're way down the chart and don't come close to approaching Irreplaceable's actual gain (nearly 28 million audience impressions). Nonetheless, credit where due to Ciara's Promise (up 38.4% for a 65-34 chart leap) and Snoop Dogg's semi-unprintable That's That S--- (up 35.9%, 83-47 on the chart).
Along with the aforementioned Jim Jones, two more songs top the 20% audience gain mark: Rodney Atkins' Watching You (+21.3%, 81-58) and My Chemical Romance's Welcome to the Black Parade (+20.2%, 100-81).
> Debuts on the top 100:
Nine this week, a bumper crop: At 71, there's Young Jeezy's I Luv It; Ludacris teams with Mary J. Blige on follow-up Runaway Love, in at 74; Rihanna's back with Sean Paul guesting on Break It Off, No. 78; Hispanic idols RBD enter at 79 with Ser o Parecer; the All-American Rejects accept a No. 88 debut for It Ends Tonight; Fat Joe's Make It Rain reigns at 94; The Game's Let's Ride cruises in at 95; Ricky Martin's Tu Recuerdo is in at 97 (the question is do we remember him?); and rock en espanol stars Mana come in at 98 with Bendita Tu Luz.
