The currently reigning CMA and ACM female vocalist of the year defends Swift as having done nothing but help country music's image.
Quote:
"Taylor Swift is a pop singer," Lambert noted in a recent interview with W Magazine. "But she really helped country music. When she hit, I was thinking, 'Thank God Taylor's out there to show people we're not cheesy.'
"Some people still think that country music is twangy and cheesy, and they pigeonhole us," she added. "But I thought, 'If they're looking for Taylor's videos or songs, they might see or hear other people they like. If her fans are watching for her, they might like me too.'"
No problem with Miranda saying this she makes some of the most country sounding music out there and she along with Alan Jackson and George Strait are some of the few in country music who could call someone pop without being a hypocrite so I have no problems with her saying that plus she praised Taylor as well so Miranda me and you are still cool
I truly do think at the core Taylor is country, she is no different than Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood or the like. At the core of their music it is very much the definition of country, songs that tell a story (yes most songs do but, not in the same way a country song does) but they have pop sensibilities that have let them cross over. It doesn't make them a pop singer.
She basically said Taylor Swift is mainstream/crossover. She definitely acknowledges Taylor is country or else she wouldn't have said Tay did so much for country.
Bottom line is both are country, both are flawless and both are friendly contemporaries.
She's correct, what's the big deal? Her music is more pop than country, and that's pretty obvious when you compare her to contemporaries. Even Carrie Underwood is more 'country', and she's country-pop too.
