Music as a whole sucks today. But good music is still alive... u just gotta hunt for it. If you take the time and find out what kinda music u like and find artists that make it then u'll be content and happy.
I really do think that pop music with more live instrumentation would fantastic. And more variation in the song instead of the exact same beat throughout the chorus, bridge, hook, and such. A lot of the Top 40 scene (and even the indie scene a little) is becoming so bland and flavorless. I don't think it's all bad, I just I don't want to listen to the radio anymore.
Of course that people are overly picky and nostalgic today.
The musicians of today are def. less talented. They used to write, produce, and do some or all of the instrumentation for their own albums. Now today's artists rely on the producers to make their stuff hot. Even if they are vocalists, do they know how to play the piano or play the guitar? More than likely they can't. & then there's the excess of so called "singers" who can't do just that. But are they good songwriters to make up for it? No. Rap is basically pointless save a few like Common and Mos Def. R&B sucks if you compare it to the 90s on backwards. Again, there are a few but not enough for me to praise the genre as a whole. Rock used to be so good. I grew up in the 90s when grunge was in. Bad timing. That was def. worse than this emo crap but the current rock music isn't much better. Again, there are some good artists but even so, compare them to the classic rock bands, they suck. For instance, I love Incubus. But do they have a song that compares to any of the classic GNR songs? No and they never will. Has a frontman emerged that is remotely as good as Freddie Mercury or Mick Jagger? Please. & it won't happen for that matter. This is why I mainly listen to old music and I have pick out the current music to listen to.
