Discussion: Is religion ruining the world?

People say no it's not but if you think about Religion is in government, the reason behind 9/11, suicides, gay rights, wars, kids dying sick from preventable illnesses and most recently The Queen's concert being cancelled. Do you think Religion in 2012 is doing more damage than good? I'm all here for people having the freedom to believe in what they what. However i think it's ridiculous when it goes beyond that and into repressing others freedom.

And let's give you 9/11 just because of extremists, but they were really not following any religion, they used it as an excuse.

There are some very detrimental extremist organizations, but, for the most part, religions do a great job of providing help for those who need it. So no, actual religion isn't destroying the world; extremism is.

Kids are being taught that being gay is wrong. Which leads to suicides and there are some religions that don't believe in medical treatment. http://www.religioustolerance.org/medical8.htm
