It's tough. Battleship probably isn't doing better than John Carter in the US, but it made a little more WW. John Carter had a bigger budget, but it seemed that Battleship's marketing budget was bigger. I honestly never heard of John Carter until articles were posted online about it flopping. There was Battleship promo everywhere.
I'd say Battleship's ensemble cast makes it a bigger flop.
