When will Nintendo start a new franchise?
All their recent games were based on Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy etc. Will it survive if they still make remakes/ripofs? I think it isn't as innovative as it was in the past.
I'm talking about the video game studio, not the trashy console maker.

Sis you did NOT just associate that piece of trash of a series with Nintendo
But yeah, Nintendo's only selling point nowadays is its nostalgia factor. It's getting boring

I agree. They haven't released an original ip in ages.. what was the last IP they released that wasnt based on a past era? I dont think its necessarily bad but then again times are changing and they need to cater to older audiences as well.
Completely unrelated but i here the new WII U will have Android.. that actually saved me from completely ignoring this console when e3 comes next month.

The last new series that Nintendo created, and by this I mean the original Nintendo company, is Pikmin in 2001 for the Gamecube. But that is not what Nintendo is good for, it isn't what Nintendo markets. Rehashing old storylines is what the majority of the people who buy nintendo games want. Each and every restart of an old series sells millions of copies (except for Kirby, that series is falling hard). There is no sign that these products are not doing well, the most recent Zelda game has sold upwards of 3.4 million copies and the new Mario 3D land, as of January 27th of this year, sold over 5million copies. If you are getting bored with it, then go to xbox where the same thing is beginning to happen with the "War-Game" series. (COD, Battlefront, Tom Clancy..etc). The people want these things, they are the ones that sell. New Systems usually have new game series start ups but with the wii they didn't need that, wii sports was the new creation and its sold upwards of 50million copies.

I'm content with their Zelda/Pokemon/animal crossing remakes
If they made an M rated Zelda game that would certainly spur something new, and I would be here for that

They'll start a new franchise when they need to.
But as of now, their remakes and spin-offs are doing perfectly well.

They don't need to
The Mario games are ALWAYS the highest selling point because people are always purchasing them.

I want a new one, but I wouldn't say they rehash games at all. They're very good at making their sequels a totally new and unique experience.

The op sickens me,
It's so full of **** it doesn't make sense.
Nintendo is not responsible for the final fantasy franchise first of all. Nintendo has survived decades based off of their 1st party games. Nintendo isn't only doing sequels or prequels, from the yup of my head, pikmin, nintendogs, these are just a few of the new characters or franchises nintendo has introduced the world to.
Innovation in metroid can be seen as a whole new game in itself, moving it from 3rd person to first person.
Nothing is wrong with giving their core hardcore fans old school characters or games with a new spin.
Nintendo is fine

With Zelda, Pokemon, Mario and somewhat of Kirby ******** on sales, they don't need to make a new franchise. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

New franchise
Gamecube: Pikmin and Animal Crossing and oh oke it's from Mario World but it's Luigi's Mansion
NDS: Nintendogs, Brain Age Training games, and Style Savvy games
Wii: hmm Im not sure...
They still got Kid Icarus and Earthbound (Mother) games to explore
but Im hoping Nintendo still makes new franchise
although they have their 2nd party developers which have amazing games too like
Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Starfox, F Zero, Golden Sun,...
CMIIW with those..

As long as there are Pokémon and Mario, the two best-selling video game series of all time, there will be Nintendo.
Plus Pokémon is going as strong as ever, perhaps even stronger than Generation IV - the popularity and hype for Black & White, as well as their sequels out this year, rivals that of Gold & Silver, the peak of the Pokémon franchise. Red & Blue have only sold more because they had more time and a bigger nostalgia factor.
Mario will likely always sell. He's the most iconic video game character of all time, moreso than Pikachu or Sonic or Link or anyone.
As for a new franchise, they will likely start one either for the 3DS or for the Wii U.
