Democrats Take House, Gain in Senate

The projected result means that President Bush for the first time faces the prospect of working with a Democratic-controlled House.

Bush, whose anemic approval ratings proved a drag on Republican prospects, was described as "disappointed" with the House results. However, spokesman Tony Fratto said the president was "still optimistic about the Senate."

The Democratic pickups in the House included the Florida seat vacated by Mark Foley after his cybersex scandal and the Ohio seat vacated by Bob Ney after his guilty plea to charges related to the Jack Abramoff lobbying probe.

Still too close to call were two Democratic-held districts in Georgia that were redrawn by the GOP-controlled state Legislature to make them more Republican-friendly.

I'm actually surprized that they had as big of a night as they did. I was pretty sure that the Democrats would take the House, but not by the majority that they likely will end up with (CNN's up to the minute tracking currently has the Dems gaining 24 seats, with a sizable of the 40-some races that remain to be called are leaning Democrat).

Also, something of interest about gay marriage. Arizona may become the (correct me if I'm wrong) first state to reject a ballot initiative that would create a state constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman. Gay marriage will still be statuatorily illegal in Arizona, but if the proposed amendment is rejected, that could be changed by a voter proposition or the state supreme court.

I'm kind of glad the Asses (aka Donkies = Democrats...you get the idea

) are taking over. I'm just worried about the level of progress between both the Senate + the house with correlation to President Bush on some issues. (i.e. Iraq, War on Terror, National Security, Foreign Relations.) I'm expecting some clashes/major disagreements/conflicts of interest in the future.

As for here in Colorado, we are likewise turning somwhat blue, as we now have a Democratic Govener. (Mr. Bill Ritter...who kind of looks like Taylor Hicks from American Idol)

The ammendment to legalize possesion of marijuana up to one ounce has been axed. I wasn't watching a parody or anything, but last night when I was watching the election coverage, a pro representative for that ballot issue was being interviewed at some bar/club. (ironic?) He looked as if he was really high already. (Just by his appearance and timely reaction to answering the questions.)

Otherwise, we are still having votes counted in several dead heat ammendments, referendums, and politician races.

If anything else, it was a little bit of struggle to vote yesterday (I had a 30-45 minute wait), but I was able to get in my vote via touch screen just fine.

The two remaining disputed Senate seats (Montana and Virginia) are being held by the Democratic canidate by the smallest majorities. I have a feeling that at least the Virginia contests will require a recount in some precints, meaning that it could take several days before we know who controls the Senate.
And thank the gods that Rumsfeld's stepping down.

In the US, not many people cares about her marriage. I think Britney may did on the purpose. People care about the election and may for get about her divorce.

For the first time in a long time, I was excited for school today, were almost the entire faculty & student body is Republican. Everyone was so sullen & desolate. A glorious day it is.

It's looking as if Democrats may have Montana & Virginia in the bag as well. Taking over the Senate is amazing accomplishment that I'm sure will be achieved.

I about died when I heard Rumsfeld stepped down. I don't think I've ever seen a smarter move in the history of politics.
