her first two albums went mostly unnoticed but helped introduce her to the music scene. her third,
Good Girl Gone Bad, is what finally made her a superstar and created a mark on the late-2000s as one of the better pop albums of its time- the utterance of "Umbrella-ella-ella" helping make her a significant figure in pop culture. after pushing the album for 2 years & a couple of re-releases, she planned on continuing her dominance on the scene with further promotion until everything was halted on February 8, 2009. she took a short break to recuperate and went on to release
Rated R a few months later that year. after the album failed to see the success of the album prior, another album was released almost exactly a year later,
LOUD. the album brought her back to a happier, radio-friendly pop sound that was missing from
Rated R, sans 'Rude Boy.' another year later and we see the release of
Talk That Talk, an extension of
LOUD. the album was meant to be jam-packed full of hits to give her her 3rd big era but so far has failed to do so with only 'We Found Love' being a smash single. despite being one of the most popular Twitter personalities & the most followed female artist on Facebook, it seems some people think that she doesn't do anything really significant for music pop culture besides dying her hair red and singing about an umbrella. people argue that besides making chart-topping hits, she isn't too iconic or memorable. even collaborating with her former abuser, Chris Brown, didn't create any big media scandal that it was hyped up to be on the internet. "No one
really cared." it seems she is stuck in a rock & a hard place: if she takes a break she will be forgotten, some say, but they also say that if she continues pushing out yearly albums people will get tired of her.
Rihanna has been in the music industry for almost 7 years but a lot of the time she still gets compared like a newcomer on the scene. Even while making the
TIME 100 Most Influential 2012 List, Stella says about Rihanna in her write-up: "This is the beginning for Rihanna — she has so much more to do and to give."
In what way do you think the girl from the West Indies could prove herself as an almost-10-year vet so that [reasonable] people can't deny The Black Madonna™'s significance?
Or does she even have to prove herself, still?
