I think it goes both ways. Anti-mainstream people do act snobby at times and they think people who like mainstream music are dumb BUT some mainstream people can be annoying too. Some only listen to what's popular and they don't give non-popular artists a chance to listen to his or her music. They simply want to call them 'flops' or 'nobodies'. So it's 50/50 for me.
Honestly, both chart people and anti-mainstream people are annoying. If it's not doing anything on the charts, it's automatically bad to a person who stays on the chart. You get lots of unnecessary who's when trying to introduce them to something else as well. Not everything's gonna bs popular, so give it a chance.
With people who don't care for mainstream music, it's kind of understandable. I mean, you turn on the radio and everything sounds the same. At least in 2007 and before you had variety. When the same thing is constantly being thrown at you over and over again, you get tired of it.
Having said, you don't have to throw it in people's faces that you don't like anything that's mainstream. It makes you seem like some pretentious bitch who's trying to stand out. That's when it becomes contrived. You can tell who actually enjoys music that strays from the mainstream sound, and who listens to it just to try to impress people.
Sometimes they annoy the **** out of me. What do you think about those who "hate" everything mainstream?
Hate them so much, they can't accept that music has changed, its a new generation and they don't want to accpet that Old school hip hop fans are so ignorant and hard-headed and close minded
I remember someone whinging on Twitter during the Grammys that Adele had been around since "Chasing Pavements" and that now she's "part of the mainstream".
This Kingsley video represents some of my feelings towards this people:
