2007 Race To Oscar: Predictions Thread
Started a tad later than last year
As the Oscarbait films begin to be released, it's time to become psychic and guess who's getting a nod come sometime in January.
You definitly, when predicting, want to list the top 5 for the categories, but if you wanna list a wild card or so, go for it ^_^
you traditional categories are:
Best Picture
Best Director
Best Actor
Best Actress
Best Supporting Actor
Best Supporting Actress
And there's the other major and minor ones (Original and Adapted Screenplay, Foreign Film, Animated Film, tech awards, Song) you can predict as well ^_^
The Race is off to January and the official presentation of nominees.

You're basing your opinion on me with one comment? Interesting.
Where in my "Hahaha thanks for the laugh" did you read "This movie sucks"?
The Oscars are as racially biased as it comes. A Nomination should be due, sure. But it doesn't stand a chance at a win.

"Best Supporting Actor
1. Jack Nicholson, The Departed
---------------------------
2. Djimon Houson, Blood Diamonds"
I dont know about that, Djimon by far will win the award, hell I think he should win best actor but I think he may because he was a secondary character, be exempt from it. Djimon's performance in Blood Diamonds was simply phenomenal-by far best performance by ANYONE in a long time, maybe even since he appeared in Amistad or In America.

They both need a loooooooooooooooot a help since Queen Helen Mirren almsot has it all sewed up. The only perceived threat is Judi Dench and Meryl Streep, but Meryl is faltering and no one is quite sure if Judi is really a lead.
Yay for Ryan and Sasha for sharing Best Actor nods with Forest. One might sneak onto the ballot - probably Borat instead of crackhead - but this category is all done.
As for Djimon, he should be a lock if he makes at least the runner-up slot on NYC. The DC win helps a bit. But Jack was allowed by Scorcese to be Jack and chew more scenery than the devil. Mark Wahlberg will get more crit awards (as he should) but the Academy will probably only pick one, especially with Michael Sheen picking up steam and Eddie Murphy faltering.
Globe noms on Thursday could shuffle the noms in Support and considering Letters is going Foreign for it (stupid stupid move since I doubt the Press will let Flags take its spot) it could help The Queen or The Departed reassert as the One To Challenge Dreamgirls.
And if Dreamgirls gets only 3 nods - Pic, Director, SupActress - it could be a very very long season. They need Eddie, Jamie and possibly Beyonce to score nods (Jamie and Bee could score since Comedy is iffy overall this year but Jamie will have to smile while Sasha Baron or Peter O'Toole gets Actor and Bee needs to be programed to clap right when Meryl wins Actress) as well as 1 song nod (probably being Listen just so Ms. Sasha McAnnoyingass can get a Globe and try to steal JHud's shinening moment. Back the f off bitch!). Screenplay is not a huge issue just yet, since that will go to Thank You For Smoking or Lil' Miss anyways (yay shared category >_<). Forrest and Helen might as well have acceptance speeches ready at the nominatiion ceremony

2. Notes On A Scandal
3. Thank You For Smoking
4. The Departed
5. Dreamgirls
Start Notes: updated this weekend after LA, NYC and NYC Online release theirs. If Dreamgirls is missing, the lock might be a fake Best Pic
Notes On December 11: U93 returns to the challenge, The Queen looks like the main threat to weakened Dreamgirls, Half Nelson and Borat are making a lot more noise than expected and could spring two upsets in Actor, a surprise in Support and a dark horse for Best Picture in Borat - as well as AMPAS confusion with NYC giving it some Doc love. Peter is slipping and Leo has a nod by the skin of his teeth, which will die if he pushes Blood Diamond over The Departed, making Forrest almost guaranteed and no one is challenging Queen Helen, so the interest might just be Support Female after all.

Notes On December 27: Dreamgirls is getting no help at all from the crits (unlike the Brokeback juggernaught) and has been passed by The Queen and The Departed...and could slip behind U93 very soon as well. Babel is in over Letters, but barely. Foreign Film is almost done, especially if Water is Canada's selection - Pan's/Volver/Army of Shadows/Lives Of Others make probably the toughest top 4 slots in recent history for the category and any of them are deserving winners. Actress is finally done, with Kate back as the final lock in. Cate and Jackie Earle chose to make the Supporting categories more interesting, with Supp Actor being a toss-up and Cate trying to hang on to JHud's coattails.

I'll go out on a limb and say, in my only prediction for now, Pan's is a shoo-in to win Foreign Language. And yes, I know Volver's there.

2. Volver (Spain)
3. The Lives Of Others (Germany)

-----------------------
5. either the Swiss or Algerian film.

Actress is finally done, with Kate back as the final lock in. Cate and Jackie Earle chose to make the Supporting categories more interesting, with Supp Actor being a toss-up and Cate trying to hang on to JHud's coattails.
Notes On January 15: So we're sitting at 4 locks in every category...except Actress, which has been done since the beginning of time. Supporting Actor is the only category that isn't quite a lock - Eddie Murphy would be an awesome win, but Jackie has come on way strong and the Academy loves them some Jack. Forrest, Helen and JHud should have those speeches ready. U93 and Little Miss are really the last two fighting, but Pan's Labyrnth does have a major Best Pic win that could see it become the 9th foreign film in the Best Pic race and the first since CTHD...and with the Best pic race really wide open (Dreamgirls has steam again, but not as much as it should; Babel stole thunder from The Departed and The Queen is a dark horse) anyone could still win.
