They were likely answering different questions--Beyoncé had a prepped speech about being independent and doing it for yourself and all that other obsequious ******** because that's exactly what the 4 era is about. Rihanna was keeping it real and answering the question at hand about how competitive females are.

I wouldn't say Bey was lying, but she was kissing ass and saying exactly what she was supposed to say. There's nothing illuminating about trying to step away from being competitive and saying you're doing it for yourself. That isn't new. But competition drives innovation, and if Bey isn't competing with anyone, that may not be as awesome as you think. We all know she's super competitive and wants to be the best (etc.) anyway.
