And that first ">" is starting to feel more like a "=" with every new episode of AD I see.
To answer the poll question...AD is better NOW than FG, way better, but old Family Guy is still the best overall.

Family Guy has more blatant humor.
American Dad has subtle humor that you need to understand the context in order for it to be funny.
It's all a matter of preference.

American Dad has gotten exponentially better. Family Guy has good episodes only on occasion. I hate their long song numbers. It gets tiresome after the first 1 minute of it.
