so while her contemporaries like Rihanna, Gaga, Britney & [possibly] soon to be Katy Perry have done it, Beyoncé has yet to serve a "dark" album. Not necessarily in subject matter, but in a grittier, heavier production style present in albums like Rated R, Blackout, The Fame Monster & Born This Way. And although she has songs like Radio, Single Ladies, Run The World & Sweet Dreams, Beyoncé also has yet to delve into full Electro/Dance Pop albums such as Femme Fatale & The Fame.

If Beyoncé recorded an album with one of these sounds which one would you want her to go for?

Contemporary just means "modern." So yes, they are her contemporaries, they are the modern-day stars alongside Beyoncé.
Now peers on the other hand, Beyoncé has no peers from this generation.

the production is bass-heavy & gritty, but more so in a southern, ratchet style, not a dark, menacing way.
