Being propelled into the spotlight after wowing the world with a powerful rendition of I Dreamed A Dream in 2009 on Britain's Got Talent has come at a cost for Susan Boyle.
In Liverpool last night the the singer was left 'terrified and shaken' after an obsessed fan who followed her to her hotel room tried to break in.
According to reports, Boyle was returning to the Hope Street Hotel, where she has been staying in a five star room located on the fourth floor, when the incident occurred.
The Someone To Watch Over Me singer noticed the group and opted to take the stairs which was when the beset fan began to pursue her.
Retelling the events of last night, an insider told the Daily Mirror, 'Some fans waited for her in the lift but Susan spotted them and took the stairs.'
'This man realised she was taking the stairs so he followed her,' the insider continued.
'He made a dash for her door, saying he wanted her autograph, but she managed to get into the room safe and sound.'
The 51-year-old singer who suffered a near mental breakdown due to the media frenzy at the start of career faced another set back yesterday, as a source explained she was struggling to cope with her fans.
Speaking to the newspaper, the source said, 'The attention she was getting from fans was a bit much, especially given what happened at her home recently.'
'The last thing she needed was someone trying to get into her room.'
The source added, 'Her nerves were already frayed and she shouldn’t have to worry about people hounding her at her hotel.'
