The song start out as word of mouth. And then it's sent to radio for more people to hear it. Then the video.

I am laughing over all these people calling it a flop, I'm sure there's a plan in place to get this huge in time for summer. They wouldn't throw all this money on the great producers and the three videos if they didn't plan to promote it right. Just breathe! Not everyone peaks at the start of their campaign, I think it's great that Nelly has the ability to build, that's how the biggest songs of the moment got there. Gotye's song was released like a year ago not even as a lead single and now it's number 1!

The difference is Gotye was an unknown artist, so it had to grow slowly on people, Nelly is suppossed to be a more stablished act...

After not being on US radio after 5 years? No.

She might be established in Europe and Canada, but she's never been fully established in the US. Which is why everything is either a hit or miss for her here.

Don't take it so literal. The general point is every artist doesn't need to open with 600,000 and debut at #1 then that's all we have to look forward to..and that it's okay for a single to build.

If people want to annoyingly complain or become irritated about this, so be it. But they should at least look at the bigger picture. Especially considering the last time she had a hit in America.
