So I decided to whiten my teeth. I got this home whitening kit from the dentist. It has the trays and the whitening solution. You suppose to use it for two hours a day. I've been using it for a week...every thing was fine. I've noticed my teeth got considerably whiter, and I had a bit of sensitivity..nothing major though.


BUT this morning....I used it like normal. An hour in, all of a sudden my bottom front tooth had this sharp intense pain. I could feel it travelling from the root to the top of the tooth. OH MY GOSH!! it was so bad. I got goose bumps, shivers down my spine and It almost knocked me down. JESUS!!! It lasted for like a second, but it was so bad!!!

I took the trays off immediately! Washed my mouth..nothing happened. 30 minutes later, I decided to drink some water. It wasn't cold or hot, so I drank it...nothing happened. Five minutes later, the pain hit me again out of nowhere.

Now, I'm afraid to let anything touch my front teeth. I ate my food with the back molar and drink through a straw.

The pain isn't like "sensitive teeth" pain. It's much worse. It's nerve pain or something.

Do you guys whiten your teeth? Have you ever experience this pain?

Ive whitened them before, I didn't get any pain. You should really ask your dentist.

Were you using it longer than 2 hours? You need to go back to that dentist.

I've whitened my teeth several times. Nothing like that happened to me.

I think I'll lay off the trays for a couple days and see what happens. I don't have the pain anymore, but I'm scared that I'll happen again. LOL

Nope. I've might have put too much solution though.

It's probably the hydrogen peroxide that's burning your gums. I wouldn't use it until I talked to my dentist if I were you.

Ouch, the same happened to me once on my bottom front tooth when I used a tray set. It feels like when you bite into icecream with your front teeth except 10x worse. I think you just have really sensitive teeth!

What did you do? The pain just subside or what?

Go to the dentist. That is not supposed to happen.

I've never whitened my teeth, but I want to.

But now I'm scared. I have VERY sensitive teeth. I HATE that nerve feeling! I get it on the bottom of my teeth where the gums have been pushed down. I can't even get them cleaned when I go to the dentist. I have no idea how to get rid of it.

You can get rx strength sensitivity treatments with fluoride from your dentist - it can help with the intense sensitivity from whitening you're experiencing.

It shouldnt get any worse as long as you stop using the trays. Go see your dentist! This is pretty common and they can help.

It depends on peoples teeth honestly. I just used whitening strips a week ago. Mine were the ones you wear once every three months for 2 hours only and you’re done, so it’s much stronger. 3 months prior when using the strips I had a similar situation as you did. Except it was TWO of my bottom teeth, and the pain started after only an hour of wearing it. I had to go to work, and it was the longest, worst day of work every. Like every 15-30 minutes I would get that sharp pain for a second, it last like 4 hours only though, and after that I was fine. So before I used the whitening strips last week I took two Advil and i only experience a sharp pain once on a tooth/gum area right where I had a burn on my gums from hot food the day prior. Nothing major, the pain wasn't as intense either because I took the Advil. Don't worry you'll be fine, it will only last a few hours, or maybe less if you’re lucky. Your also not supposed to brush right before using the strips because your bristles can scratch your gums a little and cause the gel from the strips to gets in the scratches, making pains like that. Basically, don't freak out, unless the pain doesn't go away after a few hours, next time brush a couple hours before using the strips, 30 minutes before take to Advil, and after brush your teeth SUPER gently. Basically you want to brush your teeth just to get off any of the gel. Hope this helps!!

I know how you feel. I got tooth whitening recently and the first time I used it, I put WAY too much solution in the retainers and I got that exact same feeling. It really freaked me out too but then I started using less of the gel and I didn't experience it again It was worth it, too.

Just a tip though, don't use the whitening in the morning. I used mine before bed - it gives a much better result. Bleaching your teeth makes them slightly porous and if you eat/drink during the day it can stop the whitening giving you the best result
