People have different tastes I guess.

These days I made an alternative tracklist for MDNA's standard version. I cut some songs (Superstar, Give Me All Your Luvin', Turn Up The Radio) and included two of the bonus tracks (Beautiful Killer and Best Friend). I think it would be better this way, perhaps...

This has happened before, nothing new. Also, who are you to say she took the easy route? maybe she enjoyed their sound, and this "discerning taste" you speak of was what SHE wanted.
And you are more than welcome to tell me how MDNA isnt a good album.

I don't think you quite got my point re: the creative input. I know Madonna is still creatively involved in her work, but that doesn't let her off the hook when her work isn't up to par.
And MDNA is gimmick-ridden, juvenile, melodically-challenged, and worst of all, stale. "Love Spent" is the only song to me that doesn't seem redundant to anything else she released in the past.

This makes me upset and dissapointed.
I'm going to Mnation for awhile. I see you're one of those stans who has these exceeded expectations for madonna and put her on such a high pedestal. I'm seriously just not here for it. It's not 1999 anymore. Madonna is at least trying to make decent music for her fans. You're acting like she's went the Ke$ha route persay, and all she sings about is drinking and partying or sex. Of course she's not pushing the limits alot anymore but who the **** cares if she's not!!! I DONT! not anymore!! madonna already has an established body of work, and she's not releasing OVERLY CRAPPY albums, that's for sure.
And I just HATE how people hover hard candy over madonna's head like a storm cloud. the era happened, it wasnt really that good, the music wasnt as inspiring...IT'S OVER NOW. MDNA exceeds hard candy anyway!
I love MDNA ad that's all that matters. no use in arguing with you cause it's just making me even more upset. I need to be surrounded by people who at least appreciate madonna for who she is now instead of criticising her for not being what they want her to be, and that includes YOU.

Its interesting people say MDNA is weak but then cite certain tracks on it as the only good songs.
Interesting because they seem to all have different faves from it. So all in all it must add up to a decent album after all.

I appreciate this post because you didn't get defensive. I'm more concerned with Madonna preserving her legacy, because when her current music and image don't hold a candle to her earlier stuff, her fans and the general public are going to think she's only in it for the money and frankly I find that disillusioning.
And why am I not allowed to criticize her for what I want her to be? After all, she's selling to me (a fan). She's an entertainer, a public servant, we pay her paychecks, aren't we allowed to dictate what we want to hear from her and what we don't? She's not creating music for her own benefit after all.

That's an interesting phenomenon isn't it? The difference with me though is that just because I like a song doesn't mean it's a good song. "Superstar" is my favorite song on the album, but I can't defend it because I know it's only so-so and she's capable of better. Most people don't know how to discern between the good songs and their favorite songs.

MDNA is flawless. Stop with the "protecting your legacy" ********.
If ya'll want her to spit a Ray Of Light out of her vagina with every release, then she would end up a jaded mess like Barbara Streisand or Cher -- where this generation can hardly recognize their legacy, and they don't understand their recent "graceful" work either. Madonna has always been hungry for power and relevancy, so she would never take that dusty road.
And please, tracks like "I ****ed Up" and "Gang Bang" are PURE Madonna, and only she is capable of making songs like that. The bitch is still staying true to herself after all.

Barbra Streisand has never been a flashy popstar who aims to appeal to young people anyway. And she began her career in the '60s, 20 years before Madonna. 20 years ago, she was directing and starring in a #1 box office hit + Best Picture nominee. She's completely different from Madonna. On top of all her record sales, she's an Oscar-winning actress, was the biggest female box office draw of the late '60s and the entire '70s, and is one of the very few EGOT winners. She basically gave birth to the triple threat label.
Just because Madonna is releasing music like MDNA that's aimed at today's youth doesn't mean she's actually reaching them. Sure, MDNA went #1, but none of the singles clicked. Streisand's 1st #1 album was in 1964 and her latest one in 2009, 45 years later.
Madonna is great but let's not discredit other legends just to aggrandize her achievements.

You're proving exactly my point. After all of that, nobody from the current generation is fully aware of Barbara's status or her list of achievements that you mentioned. Her recent efforts are not adding anything to her legacy and she's simply irrelevant. Madonna would never surrender to such status -- even if her music is not "clicking" with the youth, as you said.
She is working against the odds and she's setting her very own first template for a Popstar in her 50s -- the same template that all the current popstars will be following 20 years from now.
In this time and age, sitting at home or making records about rocket science wouldn't protect her legacy or take her (or any other artist of her caliber) anywhere. That's why, the most successful female recording artist of all time, will always know what she's doing.

If her music is not "clicking" with the youth, then doesn't that make her irrelevant too? And MDNA is adding no more to Madonna's legacy than Barbara's latest album is adding to hers.

Lets not be disrespecting other legends to big up Madonna. Its really not necessary. Barbara has trail blazed in her own field just like Madonna has. Two great musical legends and strong female icons.

I'm not that familiar with all of her work, but I know Bedtime Stories, Erotica, Music and Ray of Light are FLAWLESS pieces of work. True Blue is also a good album, but I haven't listened to COaDF, HC, MDNA, LAV or her debut
