Captain America will be marching back into theaters on April 4, 2014, for a sequel.
Chris Evans will again be behind the cowl.
Unlike last year’s “Captain America: The First Avenger,” which grossed $176.7 million at the box office, the second installment of Marvel Studios’ star-spangled hero won’t be set during World War II. Instead, the movie will pick up in the aftermath of this summer’s superhero teammup blockbuster, “The Avengers.”
As for the plot: “Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world,” Disney explained in its statement.
At the end of the first movie, Evans’ Cap had been frozen in ice for more than 60 years after an aerial battle with the nefarious Red Skull, only to find himself thawed out in a world he know longer recognizes, a storyline made famous by comic book legends Stan Lee and Kirby.
The summer of 2014 is shaping up to be another season for super hero movies, with Sony already having announced a sequel to the upcoming “The Amazing Spider-Man” reboot on May 5
