Because in the 90s the music was more funkier and had funkier beats and it made you dance to it. But here in the 21st century the music had lost it's funk. Who here agrees with me?

Music was better in the 90s because people were more talented. Half these people out now would never stand a chance. Pop singers, rappers, and the generic R&B singers.

I don't get it. Why do people just assume that music was so much better in the 90s than it is now? If anything, music on a whole is better NOW than it was THEN.

Wait, wait, hear me out before you go on a hate filled rant or whatever. I'm not referring to the state of music in terms of MAINSTREAM music. Mainstream wise, music has many weak points. However, in terms of the wide scope of music, music has never been better. There's so much more variety than there ever was and there's a lot more quality music from bands and artists that aren't as well known as, say, Fall Out Boy and the Pussycat Dolls. And not only that but, thanks to the internet, tons of music is available to listen to, streaming, downloading or whatever, so the possibility of finding good music outside of the mainstream is much more likely now than it was in the 90s.

I'm not saying that the 90s was a bad time for music. Obviously, it wasn't. And i'm not saying that ALL mainstream music is bad, that's just not true. All i'm saying is that people are being way too harsh on this current decade when there has been music that rivals anything that came out before it.

With Hiphop and RnB,now music is actually better than the 90's

When Biggie died rap music died w/ him. Then that bling bling and snap snap southern rap came in to destoy the music biz. R&B was def. better. To me Mary is the only one that keeps it going. I don't know where D'angelo is, Jon B. isn't consistent, Lauryn is a lost cause along w/ Erykah. Maxwell disappeared. Musiq is good and so is Anthony. But they keep it 90s. Avant needs to go. Jodeci is better than Jagged Edge. No Boys II Men.The Lost Boys is gone. Pun died. Don't get me started on Pac. Lenny is gone. All the good girl groups died down Xscape, SWV, En vogue, Total. I could go on and on. R&B and rap music sucks now. I can only tolerate Common and Mos Def. & Pitbull because he makes u want to dance.

R&B and Hop Hop was better in the 90's. I think Pop is the only thing thats good from this decade.

At first, I was like "WTF?!?!" at this but if you are 14 then I understand why you would think that.

With that being said I agree with Miss Consic. MAINSTREAM music along with hip-hop and R&B was better in the 90s. Nowadays I turn to music from other countries and underground artists with talent. I'm so sick of these so called singers who cannot sing, rappers who cannot rap about anything but sex, dumb ass dances, and money, and constantly rehashed lyrics.

Pop, A/C, Rock or Alternative seeing as that's the path Rock has gone, Hip-Hop, R&B, have all sufferered during the first half of the 00's. But most of '05 & '06 seems to oppose the predictabilty of the first of half of the decade. Well at least for Pop, Alternative, and A/C.

I might get backlash for this but I don't care I also think that most Rock music is trash. It is better than grunge but Rock music was good in the 80s on backwards. I don't think that it's a requirement anymore for them to actually be able to sing. I remember when it was the rockstars who used to have the best pipes in the industry. They could scream like no other. Don't hear that anymore. I can't listen to current rock music either.

I agree with the original poster that being said i agree with you as well about rock dont get me wrong i like rock music and but know a lot of the bands sound the same yes there are expections and i am not saying there are not good bands out there becase there are but a lot of the new rock bands sound like ****

I think it depends on the genre you're looking at, how things have developed, how generic they may have become or were and if there is any element of nostalgia influencing the thought. It also depends on what criteria you have for 'better' or 'worse' e.g. do you mean technically, overall sound, a memorable song, artists etc?

We have to remember though that some of it also comes down to taste and preference on what just sounds good to some and not to others. Taste can be difficult to account for (unless you fit obvious social patterns/groups and just go with what is associated with them).

In the genres I listen to, I find in some areas it's gotten better and in some worse. There's always different sub genres and many of them seem to evolve in different directions.

i like the music from 80`s to 2002...maybe 2003 and 2004 4britney....but the new RPA/HIP HOP music SUCKS

I'm sorry, but you have absolutely ZERO right to complain that rock music is trash when you have not listened to anything outside of what is played on the radio.

I'm tired of this ********. People naturally assume rock music is SO bad right now because a few bad artists occupy the top spots on rock charts. Come on. If you just took the time to expand your mindset and your taste, you might find some really grand music that dwarfs the Three Days Graces, Papa Roaches and Godsmacks of the world.
