I'm sorry not one of her better ones. Unforunately the song and vid were lost in translation. Which bascially sums up why Hikki didn't hit outside Asia.

How can it be lost in translation? Utada is fluent in English and there is no Japanese version of the song. YMMWTBAM is about miscommunication between a husband and wife. The video gives a futuristic spin to it. The only reason she flopped outside of Asia was because Easy Breezy is ****.

I bought Exodus and most of the songs just felt...you know...translated. Sort of like Shakira's 'Laundry Service' only...you know...it flopped.

I agree with Kworb, Exodus flopped because Easy Breezy is soo ******, it would've been a different story with Exodus '04 as first single.

lol, I love to explain this: "Easy Breezy" was an excellent choice for a first single in the United States. In order to sell, you need sex appeal, as offered by the video and something catchy, which "Easy Breezy" was. "Exodus '04" would have been a great 2nd choice, followed by a dance remix of "Devil Inside." Her career was miserable in the United States because of a lack of PR. She was literally on MTV on the "You Hear It First" and on CNN one week night at like midnight when noone was paying attention. Did it even have a Pre-RL on TRL?

@ Rayato, "Exodus" missed the point because the album was too "dancy." "Easy Breezy" was really one of the only candidates valid for mainstream radio. Timbaland's other two tracks, "Wonder Bout" and "Let Me Give You My Love" where the other two, which happen to be the weaker tracks on the album. "Kremlin Dusk" would have been amazing, but it isn't mainstream at all... Anyways, Utada is notorious for writing her songs in English, then translating them to Japanese, so there is no way her translation/transition would have been faulty.

aw come on Kworb. We see the state of music today. If "Laffy Taffy" and "London Bridge" can be #1 with just some promotion, then "Easy Breezy" should have cracked the Top 100.

No chance. Silly songs like those only do well if they're ghetto. Utada is "weird", but not ghetto.

Now that I think about it, I really doubt any song on Exodus would've done well in the US even with loads of promotion. It's a very difficult market to break. Quality doesn't matter, the music just has to fit a certain profile. And Utada's music doesn't fit any of the profiles.

I think I gave quite good examples. Do remember that the album was produced by Timbaland, the hottest producer right now because of "Promiscuous" and "Sexy Back," so I'm positive he would have had something up his sleeve for Utada.
