Da Brat and Queen Latifah were your typical butch female rappers comparable to the male rap stars of their period. They were influential, but never as influential as Missy Elliott. Missy had her butch image, but she was basically the female rap version of Michael and Madonna as far as videos go. When it came to awards, she slaughtered all of them.
The trash bag was one of the highlights of the '90s and has been pointed out on several video channels.
And what cultural impact has Nicki had? Nicki has been accused of stealing from people embedded in pop culture. I'd give you that. And Nicki is the only female rap artist right now. Missy did it all when female rap was still present on the map and not just one artist doing it.
It's sad when we get new artists and they blow up people tend to forget the artists that did it all before them.
