So many people I know have mentioned Midnight City but are completely oblivious to Boyfriend and Part of Me and Starships and those types of songs.

This streaming rule leads to a more accurate reflection of the songs that people are listening to - it's not all about what's hot on iTunes and pop radio.

Yeah it's a like a cheap half-worked song, nothing special or memorable at all, mediocre, ******, just the pits on the other hand is "We Are Young" which is on its way to become in one of the most iconic songs of the decade.

Streaming reflects what's hot too you know.

But a LOT of people use streaming now. It makes sense to factor it in, because that would be another whole audience that would be passed over.

It's not quite there yet, but it will be. Billboard's ahead of the curve. They realize that streaming will become the norm soon enough, so they implemented this new formula to have it in place before Spotify/VEVO/etc. take over once and for all. It's only a matter of time. Hell, it's already starting to take a large chunk of the market as it is.

I think that a 1 mil streams being equivalent to 100k downloads sounds pretty reasonable. It essentially means that 10 streams is equal to 1 download.

While Spotify is more reflective of what the general public are interested in.
