I'm sorry, but who in the hell respects Britney as a musician/artist? Even the people I know who adore her music don't even say they respect her, especially not as much as they respect a true musician like Gaga. Britney is fun and she is an important part of pop music history and people respect her for that role she has played, but that is all. People love Britney because she is Britney, not because they respect her.

On just commercial success alone, sure. But there are other factors, like Britney was THE it girl in her debut. I don't think Gaga or anyone else aol achieve that again.

tbh all Gaga has to do now to have a larger lasting impact than Britney is keep putting out albums for at least 5 years. If she dissapears right then, she'll have already surpassed Britney and I def don't see Gaga stopping within 5 years.. she has her sights set on actually snatching Madge's wig. BTW is already her Erotica era.. she didn't need to wait a few albums in for her presence to be "cemented" because 1. she doesn't have to and 2. she will have an ever changing career.

I still hold that the difference is the internet. Britney in her prime was huge all over the place. You couldn't get away from her no matter where you went. Gaga is nowhere near as big. It only seems that way because with the internet, her fans are able to make themselves seem disproportionately loud. She isn't nearly as widely liked or respected as Britney is or has been. Her fans just have a platform that wasn't around during Britney's prime.
