It's quite clear to all that Nicki Minaj is the most buzzed about popstar right now, with an era that has genuinely overshadowed every other artist this year, not only on ATRL but in popular culture in-general.
Her growth in the UK alone says it all. She has gone from a relative outsider with only one Top 10 single (Super Bass, which peaked at #8) and an average-performing debut album (Pink Friday, which peaked at #16)... to an overnight sensation with one of the biggest selling songs of the year (Starships), a sell-out tour (which sold out in 10 minutes), a future smash album, daily press coverage in every major media outlet, and now she is officially the most successful female rapper in UK history.
I think it's a little early to say that she's the it girl of 2012 considering the fact that we're not even halfway through the year yet. She's the it girl of the moment, certainly.
I have to be honest - I didn't. Not that I didn't think she was talented, but because I didn't expect her to embrace pop music so firmly. So I didn't expect her to ever produce anything as great as PF:RR.

This. Although once TMO leaked over the summer I knew she had pop potential.
Yes I did. I could sense it coming with the big features she was getting, and when EVERYONE in my neighborhood worshipped her lol This was when she was still making mixtapes and Myspace famous lol
Yes. I knew she was going to take advantage of the success of SB & make this album more universal in terms of sound. Im glad she did more pop on PF:RR, she is going to have some huge WW singles.
