First, Serena and Venus are FAR FROM OVER. Serena just recently made it to a GS final. And this is Venus' first tournament since coming back so she wasn't expected to win this. They'll win tournaments.
Serena has off days and on days. She was off against Makarova, but she destroyed Stosur the other day. Stosur is a top 10 player...let's not. And Radwanska is the 2nd best player this year after Azarenka so Venus played well. They have had similar success (or no success) around 2007 and all pundits called them hasbeens and she mollywhopped Sharapova in the final of the AO that year. Venus won Wimbledon the following year, and made it to the finals the following year.
If you want to talk about fading people...talk about Sharapova. Losing to a Li Na at the French, a newcomer like Kvitova at Wimbledon. Another newcomer like Azarenka this year. And another final back at Indian Wells to Azarenka. I like Sharapova and I don't think she's fading, but you'll realize how stupid you sound when you say someone is fading. 1st off let me inform you of how you've ripped nothing.
The last 3 matches that Serena has lost she's lost all of them in straight sets. One of them in a grand slam final. She's NEVER lost to anyone in a final but Venus & Sharapova.
The sisters are now losing to players with 85 mph first serves. Yes Serena destroyed Stosur, she had a great serving day. But like I said, no one is scared of playing them anymore and it's obvious now when the "used to be lesser girls" step on the court.
And I don't give a damn about the best players in the top 10, and neither did Venus and especially Serena! They could come back with time off for almost an entire year and rip straight through the womens field at any event. Serena had a great summer hard court 2011 and that's where the buck stopped.
Sharapova fading.... Sharapova has worked her way back up to #2 in the world with a bumm shoulder and less than stellar serve, and she's just 24,she's got at least another good 5 more years! She's been to 2 out of the last 3 grand slam finals when she was losing in the 2nd & 3rd rounds after her surgery for the last 3 years. She's now consistently making it to semis and finals at all events.
They are both over 30, which is ancient in tennis years and haven't won a grand slam since July 2010. Venus can only go but so far in a tournament now w/o looking like she's gonna need an oxygen tank. And Serena's step is almost a half a step slower. If either one of them were to win another one it would definitely be Serena and that will be only just one more.
So in closing....yes, they are fading, they are getting older, it happens. It's happened to all the greats. And I still love them dearly. I'm a Williams sisters die hard stan.
And now is their time. Just accept it and deal with it.

Like I love Radwanska and think she's a great player, but you can pan on Venus losing to Aga and then turn around to say Sharapova ISN'T like Venus when she lost to her too

I love Agnieszka but I don't want her to start failing now. True the Hingis comparisons are absurd (Hingis is probably the smartest female tennis player ever) but she is something else. And I'm glad Azarenka lost the other day, her head was getting too big
