It's sad, and I'll guess we'll never know. Katy has defiantly seemed less bubbly and chatty recently, so I wish her the best and hope she's okay. As for Russel, I'm not going to judge one person based on a tweet. The reason on the divorce papers was "Irreconcilable differences", which can mean many things.

I'm replying only to your post because you're the only one who makes sense and doesn't seem to be riding delusions.
I'm not sure I believe the "not wanting to upset her parents." She's done WAY more to upset them through her career and I don't think she cares how they feel about the divorce.
It's pretty obvious that Katy didn't want the divorce. I'm not sure if cheating was a factor; being married to an A-list pop star means the paps would follow him constantly - wouldn't some pics emerge if he was entertaining gal pals? What about "the other woman?" I'm sure she'd want her 15 minutes of fame.
If this was an ordinary couple, yes, keeping an affair private is a lot easier. But these are people who are in the public eye. If there was an affair, it would have come out or it will come out.
Only then will the public know.
