Celeb News: Chloe Moretz cast as "Carrie" in the horror film remake

She'll play the title role in the remake of the Brian DePalma original that was based on the 1974 Stephen King bestseller. She's expected to play the shy high school student "Carrie White, who is raised by a nightmarish religious fanatic mother, and comes to grip with devastating telepathic powers just as she reaches puberty. She eventually uses those gifts for lethal means when fellow classmates use the prom as an excuse to humiliate her before the entire school in a parable about bullying."

Sissy Spacek played the character in the first movie, with Piper Laurie playing her mother, and Amy Irving, Nancy Allen, John Travolta, Betty Buckley and William Katt rounding out the cast. Both Spacek and Laurie got Oscar nominations for their work in the 1976 film.

Moretz is building an impressive resume from Let Me In to Kick-Ass, (500) Days of Summer, Hugo and the forthcoming Tim Burton-directed Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp.

Will Jodie Foster or Julianne Moore Star in 'Carrie' Remake?

So far, with the casting choices and the director, this film has potential to be as great as the original!

I remember the Sequel, which was absolutely unnessecary, though.

edit: looked it up, one TV and one DTV Remake. Oh well. At least maybe this time they will the money and the vision to not just reMAKE but reIMAGINE it.

I'm a big fan of Stephen King's stuff, so remake or not, I'm stoked for this. Carrie rocks. The novel, the movie, hell I even like the dinky little TV remake they did.
I wish we could get some news on the IT remake...
