I'd much rather have her not be physically perfect for the role and act beautifully than look perfect and be a **** actor. Besides for insurance reasons they couldn't have had her slim a way down and do stunts.
At first I doubted her for the role of Katniss but upon seeing the film yesterday, she was perfect. I don't think Dakota Fanning, AnnaSophia Robb, Saiorse Ronan or Emma Roberts would have the charisma and that strong acting chops to pull off a flawless Katniss like Jennifer Lawrence did.
I never really doubted her since I saw her amazing performance on winters bone. I love Emma Roberts but she could never I was also kinda rooting for Troian Bellisario tbh

Jennifer was perfect in every sense, I watched the movie today and she was perfect!! The casting in this movie in general was REALLY good. Foxface was spot-on!!!
I mean its true. Katniss is supposed to be a starving stick. And not to mention the whole race drama. Its funny how she skirted around that by saying it was about the hair. lol
But meh, she was great for the role so whatever.

Jennifer isn't even THAT white to begin with. Her skin tone is actually similar to my cousin's who is half Latina and half German. I don't see why people are having a fuss at all.
There was no way she was biracial where her full-sister was fair, blonde and blue-eyed. Genetics don't really divide up completely half and half. Her father may have been a little more tan looking but he was not black or there would have been some sign of it on Prim. They could not have had a black girl playing Katniss with the description of her Mother and Prim, it would not have worked. It's nothing to do with racism.
The stuff being said about Rue is disgusting but Katniss' race is not important, as I said in my previous post she played the part perfectly so physically should take a back seat to that and the casting director made a great choice.

she wasn't a contender, i don't think she auditioned for the part but fans of her and people who thought she can play the part recommended her for Katniss and then Troian talked about how she loves Katniss in an interview.
